MARGARET LOUISE RICHMOND BULLOCK

Margaret Louise Richmond “Peggy Lou” Bullock, 100, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Stanley Richmond and Cornelia Louise Drake and her son, Gordon Harrison Bullock and husband, Ray K. Bullock. She was born on December 2, 1922, in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Peggy Lou, an only child, grew up in a duplex with her parents, Cornelia Louise Drake and Gordon Stanley Richmond and two uncles, Norman and Paul Richmond. Her grandparents, Louise Neale and Edmund J. Drake lived in the adjacent unit. Second Presbyterian Church was her home church. She attended St. Agnes School before going to Dallas to attend The Hockaday School. On her father’s horse farm Rock Falls Ranch in Comfort, Texas, she became an accomplished horse woman and marksman. At Camp Mystic she excelled at archery. She earned a Junior College degree from Hockaday in June 1942.
Peggy and Ray K. Bullock met when they were 12 and 13 years old. It was “almost” love at first sight. They were married on June 12, 1942. Ray was drafted into the Army/Air Force and sent to Saipan and Guam. Peggy went to NYC to attend Barnard College
(for 2 days. It did not suit). She returned to Houston to work for the Social Services Department of the Red Cross. Ray returned and they spent 66 years together. Never were two people more suited for each other.
Ray eventually settled into a career of ranching. Both were very active with the Farm & Ranch Club and the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Peggy was a member of L.O.R.S. and served on the Ladies’ Season Box Tickets, Rabbit Auction, Chicken Auction, and School Art Committees.
While raising three children, they belonged to St. Philip’s Presbyterian Church. Peggy was an active member of their Women of the Church. She was active in Chapter E of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, The Blue Bird Circle, and the Lady Washington Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Peggy was always just as comfortable in Houston at a gala as in the country on the Brightside Ranch in Brenham, Texas or at an Oilers game. As beautified as she was, she was never squeamish. She was adept at caring for and handling all animals. She excelled at art. Her artistic talent stretched from making costumes to needle pointing and from dyeing Easter eggs to painting murals.
As a homemaker, she had her hands full with a very demanding family! Once those kids were out of the house, she became a certified US Power Safety Squadron Pilot and Coastal Navigator.
She and Ray spent several years boating and fishing around Galveston and Port Aransas. They moved their membership to Grace Presbyterian Church. Peggy and Ray remained very active there until ultimately moving to Virginia to be nearer to daughter Laura and family. In their mid-80s, they built a home in Forest. Ray died in 2008 and Peggy began to spend more time in Virginia missing her old Texas friends but enjoying her new ones. She very much enjoyed her new friends in Chapter Bl of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church, the Poplar Forest Chapter DAR and the West of the Falls Chapter National Society Colonial Dames 17 Century.
She is survived by son, Ray K. Bullock Jr. and wife, Marilyn and her daughter, Gina Black; daughter, Laura Crumbley and husband,
Jess; grandchildren, Boothe Bullock Crumbley (Molly) and Sebastian Crumbley, Margaret Crumbley Cable (Keith) and Aidan Cable and Morrigan Louise Cable; and granddaughter, Avery Bullock Miranda (Daniel) and Louisa Corina Miranda.
She will be buried with her beloved Texas family in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
