Dr. Lacy Allen Koonce, age 88, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away suddenly and unexpected­ly as a result of a fall and other health conditions on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Lacy was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Nell Lacy and Hubert Allen Koonce on February 26, 1935.

Following his three year education and graduation through Abilene Christian College, Lacy went right into Medical School at UT Southweste­rn in Dallas where he received his Doctorate of Medicine degree in May of 1960. He then went into the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon for four years. After exiting the Navy, he came to Houston to complete his residency in ophthalmol­ogy. He practiced ophthalmol­ogy until his retirement at age 87 on April 1, 2022.

Lacy met his beautiful wife Helen during his second year of residency and they married six months later on August 29, 1967. He immediatel­y adopted Helen’s three precious little girls (D’Anne, Susan, and Deborah) before Lacy and Helen welcomed Karen Kaye Koonce on August 4, 1969 to complete their family.

Lacy loved traveling and had been all over the world. He was an avid car and antique collector as well. He enjoyed the opera, symphonies, and plays as well as his daily walks. He had a beautiful tenor voice that merited his membership of the Abilene Christian A Cappella Traveling Chorus. Lacy was also a devoted member of the First Colony Church of Christ, and was a proud member of the Benevolent Missions Internatio­nal.

Lacy is preceded in death by his mother and father, Nell Lacy and Hubert Allen Koonce; and his sister-in-law Beverly Koonce.

Lacy leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Koonce; his daughters, D’Anne Wilson, Susan Green, Deborah Yarborough (Rex), and Karen KoonceSaly­ers (Gary); his brother Terry Koonce (Carol); his sister Kathy Carden (Gary); his grandchild­ren Aaron, Candyce, Timothy, Ashleigh, Michael, Allison, Cameron, Austin, Jordan, Evan, Megan, Casey, and Cheyenne. He also is survived by 12 greatgrand­children.

Lacy was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed greatly by the many lives he touched.

A visitation for Lacy will be held Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A Funeral Service will occur Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at First Colony Church of Christ, 2140 First Colony Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479. The family will have a private interment.
