SUE EVELYN LEDBETTER BELL

Sue Evelyn Ledbetter Bell was born on the 10th of January 1932 in Houston, to Hazel Gawley Ledbetter and Dr. Paul Veal Ledbetter, and died on Monday, the 27th of March 2023.

She was married to the late Paul Gervais Bell, Jr. whom she met when presented at the 1950 Allegro Debutante Presentati­on. They married on the 9th of February 1952, at Christ Church Cathedral.

Sue attended River Oaks Elementary and Kinkaid Schools before boarding at the Walnut Hill School of Natick, Massachuse­tts (Class of 1949). She attended the University of Texas and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Community involvemen­t included the Junior League of Houston,

River Oaks Garden Club, Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Friends of the Governor’s Mansion Texas.

Sue was predecease­d by Lewis Bryan Bell II and Stephen Austin Bell, Sr. Survivors include Wende and Paul Bell III of Las Vegas, Susan and Robert Boykin, and Patricia Cummins Bell (Mrs. Stephen Bell). Others are grandsons Paul Bell, IV (Hunter), Jarrett Bell (Megan), S. Austin Bell, Jr., Samuel Bell, and Bryan Bell. Great-grandchild­ren are Harrison Bell, Paul Bell, V (Penn), James Bell, Hazel Bell and Evelyn Bell.

Private services were held at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, the family requests with gratitude that contributi­ons in her name be directed to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 701 Sage Road, Houston TX, 77056; to Texas Children’s Hospital, Office of Philanthro­py, Ste. 6226, PO Box 300630, Houston, TX 77230-0630; or to the charity of one’s choice.
