Paul A. Weber Jr., 88, passed away peacefully and with his family on Thursday, March 23, 2023, in Austin, Texas. Paul was born May 9, 1934. Paul often announced that this was the day on which the largest dust storm in the U.S. crossed from the plains of his birthplace, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He is preceded in death by his parents Paul Andler Weber and Orpha Buck Weber, and his sister Mildred (Millie) Margery Louise Weber. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret (Maggie) Scott Weber; his son Paul Andler (Andy) Weber

III and wife Jill Valestrino Weber of Austin, his daughter Margaret (Molly) Weber Lane and husband David (Mac) McNamara Lane of Austin; 4 grandchild­ren Merrill Margaret Weber of Washington, D.C., AnnaHelen Weber of San Francisco, CA., Caroline Adrienne Lane of Austin, and David (Mac) McNamara Lane Jr., A1C, Cannon Airforce Base, Clovis, New Mexico. Additional­ly, Brother-in-Law William Scott and wife Bess Scott of Spring, TX., Sisterin-Law Ophelia Scott Miller and late husband Bill Miller of Atlanta, GA., his cousin David G. Weber and wife Sandy Weber of Walnut Creek, CA., and 2 nephews, David Scott and wife Kimberly of Spring, TX., and Brian Scott and Angelica Almanza of Spring, TX.

Paul grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota attending Washington High School graduating in 1952. He subsequent­ly enrolled in and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Engineerin­g while serving in the Navy ROTC. He spent his college summers on various battleship­s and aircraft carriers generally in the Americas. He served 3 years of active pilot duty in the Navy on the Carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt, and was certificat­ed for the AD Skyraider, the

T34 and the T28. He logged 300 carrier landings plus more landings in Pensacola, Kingsville and Atlanta and was honorably discharged in 1959 as a Lieutenant JG. He continued his service in the Navy Reserve.

After serving his country, Paul earned his Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineerin­g from the Georgia Institute of Technology, during which time he met his wife Margaret who was an elementary school teacher in Atlanta. Married on December 28, 1961, they moved to Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico where he began his career at Sandia National Laboratori­es and Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in a joint program with Los Alamos National Laboratory. From there, Paul transition­ed to the energy industry, moved to Houston, Texas in 1965, and worked for Humble Oil Company and Geo Source. Pursuing an entreprene­urial streak, Paul founded Logic Associates,

Inc. and then SDI, Inc. where he finished his career and retired in 2002. His technical and engineerin­g skills were well-renowned primarily for the design of geophysica­l plotting software utilized by major energy companies.

Paul and Margaret were active participan­ts in Memorial Drive United Methodist Church where they were members since 1976. Due to his creative and active mind, Paul collected many hobbies during his lifetime with particular passions for brewing beer, digitizing historical family pictures and videos dating from 1904, and outdoor activities including bird and deer hunting, and gun collecting. Of special interest to Paul in his later years was attending any and all European and American history classes and excursions led by Barry Greenlaw, former Curator of the Bayou Bend Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts. Paul’s other interests included learning Spanish at the age of 75, volunteeri­ng 15 years for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, spending 15 years as a Crew Leader for Habitat for Humanity in north Houston, and working for 10 years at Memorial Drive UMC’s MAM Resale Store and Boutique through 2019. We would be remiss if we failed to mention his exceptiona­l skills in the recitation of King Arthur-era poems and his outstandin­g oral delivery of comic humor, which have entertaine­d all generation­s of his family and friends.

A Memorial Service celebratin­g Paul’s life will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 10am at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079.
