William H. B. Thode, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2023. He was born on April 23, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lt. Col. William H.B. and Melvina Thode. He received a B.S. in Forestry Science from Texas A&M University and married Maureen J. Sweeney in 1959.

After a short stint at Houston Lighting and Power Co., Bill began his career as an estimator in the constructi­on industry with Schwarz-Jordan, Inc. With the knowledge and contacts gained, he and a couple of his colleagues left to start W.C. Scott Co. where he served as Vice President and co-owner. The company was responsibl­e for the interiors of hundreds of office buildings, malls, shopping centers and other commercial buildings in and around Houston and Southeast Texas.

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman spending countless days hunting in South Texas and on the water near Sargent, Texas where he owned a home on Caney Creek. In retirement, he served as President of the Caney Creek Municipal Utility District for 15 years. During his tenure, he led the effort to greatly upgrade the water and sewer system and moved the MUD forward in countless ways.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Maureen; and is survived by his two sons, Steve and wife, Donnice; and Eric and wife, Kimberly; four grandchild­ren, Savannah, Walker, David and Whitney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 6 at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery (1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX 77055). Following the visitation, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 am.
