Academy to sell Whataburger gear again
There are several ways to show off one’s Texas spirit. One could recite the Texas Pledge of Allegiance at any moment or withstand egregious heat just to stand in line for brunch.
Or one could purchase a pair of Whataburger print boat shorts from Academy, along with Whataburger-branded socks, shirts, bicycles, coolers, tents, chairs and more thanks to an official partnership between the burger chain, Magellan and Academy.
This is the second time Academy has partnered with Whataburger, the first being in 2021, when they sold men’s apparel, hats and a few drinkware options. Now, they are introducing apparel for the whole family and tailgating and camping accessories.
According to an Academy spokesperson, the first collaboration exceeded expectations and Academy sold out of the merchandise fast.
“It’s been fun to work on a second campaign with Academy and their Magellan Outdoors retail line,” Rich Scheffer, Whataburger executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said in a news release. “The result is an extensive lineup of apparel and products featuring exclusive Whataburger designs that will help take your family outing to a whole new level.”
That new level must mean wearing extremely patriotic, red, white and blue 4-inch Whataburger printed shorts or playing Whataburger-themed cornhole with both regular and spicy ketchup packets as bags.
“After seeing the appetite from the first Whataburger and Magellan Outdoors collection, we wanted to reunite the two beloved Texas traditions for an even bigger and better line,” said Lawrence Lobpries, senior vice president of marketing for Academy Sports + Outdoors. “For active families who are craving summer fun, this special collection is here to fuel your next pool party, cornhole matchup or day on the water.”
