06/05/1932 - 03/25/2023

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Carol Patricia Clawson, who passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90 on March 25, 2023 at The Forum in The Woodlands, Texas.

A daughter of the late

Edith (Ransom) and John Marsland, Carol was born on June 5, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated with the class of 1950 from Grand Rapids South High School, studied interior design at the local community college, and served as a flight attendant for TWA, based in Kansas City, MO.

Carol had a happy childhood filled with ice skating, trips to the beach, and hunting & fishing trips. Her love of playing the piano, reading books, observing nature - birds, animals, flowers started at an early age and never faded. In her younger years, Carol discovered her passion for oil painting.

She learned some of her techniques from her mother, Edith, and her paintings were filled with vibrant colors and many were of the English countryside where her parents originated.

On September. 17, 1955, she was married in Kansas City to R. M. “Bob” Clawson, a mechanical engineer who graduated from the University of Kansas. The couple lived in Abilene, Benghazi Libya, Kansas City, Tripoli Libya, Houston and London. She and her family enjoyed travelling throughout Europe with frequent visits to Hull, England to see relatives. Upon moving back to Houston, she enjoyed work as a real estate agent over ten years for Memorial Realty until retirement and a move to Austin, Texas.

Carol’s beautiful home in the hills of Northwest Austin was a gathering place for many memorable family get-togethers with fabulous views, swimming in the pool and feeding the deer. Carol was active in an Austin social club and was known for hosting many festive 4th of July parties. She also relished her adventures and friendship with Grace and Norma Lee, calling themselves the “Golden Girls”.

She always said that her greatest joy in life were her children, and everyone knew that is what made her the happiest. We will always remember our mother for her loving warmth, kindness and selflessness. Carol is survived by her children, Mark (Laura), Jeff, and

Susan Hennahane; brother Keith Marsland (Cheryl); ten grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, and former spouse Bob Clawson, who will all miss her dearly.

Carol’s family wishes to thank the staff at The Forum Memory Care in The Woodlands, Texas for her compassionate care over the past year. A private service will be held to celebrate her life, and her family kindly suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the local animal shelter or a charity of your choice in her memory.
