James B. Hamilton

March 30, 1943 - July 7, 2023

Jim was born in Houston, TX at St. Joseph’s Hospital on March 30, 1943, to Lucille and Joseph Hamilton. He spent his lifetime celebrating family, friends, and the craft that was woven into his family-owned business, Hamilton Shirts.

Jim was the third generation to lead Hamilton Shirts, where he spent 36 years at the helm building on the company’s legacy of expert workmanship. From seasonal trips to fabric mills in Italy and Switzerland, to sweeping fabric scraps off the floor at the workshop on Richmond Avenue, to custom shirt fittings with clients and the conversations that went along with them – there wasn’t an aspect of the business that he did not love. In 2006, he proudly passed the generational torch to his children, Kelly and David, who honor the family legacy in its fourth generation of operations.

Jim was a one-of-a-kind husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who could hold a room with his colorful stories. If you were waiting on him, “you were backing up”. Jim was grand and generous. He was dashing, stylish, and embodied the essence of bespoke in every sense of the word. He was a legend, a leader, and a storyteller that scripts are made of.

In 1979, Jim joined Lakeside Country Club where he spent over 40 years as a member of the community, making great friends and generating wonderful memories. He loved Texas football and always believed in the promise of next year.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cathy Hamilton; his daughter, Kelly Hamilton; his son, David Hamilton, daughter-in-law, Allison Hamilton and granddaughter, Annabelle Hamilton; and his sister, Jane.

Jim also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews and their families.

A service celebrating Jim’s life will be held August 11th at 10am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church located at 1801 Sage Road, Houston, TX 77056.
