IAH is named one of the world’s best airports

Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport is one of the best in the world, according to a blog serving flight and cabin crews.

IAH ranks sixth in the site’s 2023 report, just behind Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport at No. 5, according to CabinCrewHQ. Tokyo International Airport took top honors, followed by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Benito Juarez International Airport in Mexico City.

The study sized up airports based on data such as their passenger count, average number of on-time flights, parking fees and the number of restaurants and shops available to travelers (and cabin crew). IAH stood out, the blog said, in the latter category.

“Despite having the secondlowest passenger count in the top 10, it compensates with a good number of restaurants and shops,” CabinCrewHQ explained. More than 40 million passengers traveled through Bush Intercontinental last year, according to Houston Airports, the city’s aviation department.

Those options are expected to expand thanks to the $1.4 billion IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program, which began in 2019 and is scheduled for completion in 2024.

Last year, international air transport rating agency Skytrax gave Hobby Airport its first five-star rating in North America and one of only 16 around the world.

The top rating is the most prestigious and unique mark of quality achievement and a global benchmark of airport excellence, according to Skytrax.

The agency has given IAH a four-star rating.
