Gayle Lee Lindner, “Auntie Gayle,” 70, passed September 18, 2023 in Houston, Tx.

First child of Galen and Laela Jo Lindner, she is survived by sisters, Terry (Lindner) and Mark Crotinger, Tracy (Lindner) and Gordon Coe, nieces, Rebecca Crotinger, Lindsay (Prestridge) and Jon Alaniz, Melissa (Crotinger) and Andrew Drzycimski, Alissa Prestridge, Bailey (Coe) and Jason Fee, Kylie (Coe) and John Slaughter, and seven grand nieces and nephews. Many feline friends will miss her.

Gayle attended Westcheste­r High School (Houston, TX,) earned B.S. English/HPER at University of Mary-Hardin Baylor pledging Historical Phila Sorority (Belton, TX,) M.A. Recreation Administra­tion from Texas Woman’s University (Denton, TX,) and certified in Mainframe programmin­g from Houston Community College.

She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution-Ann Poage Chapter and Colonial DamesJohn Champion Chapter. Gayle was active in Texas Federation of Republican Women’s Club, Harris County Women’s Political Caucus, Chair (1985-1986,) and served as Delegate (1985) with National Women’s Political Caucus Convention. Gayle remained active with Harris County politics and served as a Precinct Secretary and volunteere­d with local election campaigns. She was a volunteer firefighte­r with Katy Fire Department.

She worked for Harris County Parks as an Aide for Public Relations and caretaker (Bear Creek and others.) She taught in Spring Branch and Houston ISD, Houston Community College, Training Manager for Texas Children’s Hospital/ServiceMas­ter, provided editing and system consulting for Deane Enterprise­s and taught at Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.

A prolific writer, she penned short stories and award winning poetry and loved science fiction, historical Roman works and was an avid listener of Coast to Coast with George Noori. She could recount The Canterbury Tales in perfect Old English from memory.

“Auntie Gayle” was a Girl Scout (San Jacinto Council) from Brownie to counselor and waterfront instructor. She collected Western and Native American art and pottery, creating intricate Native American themed beaded jewelry. She adored her many cats. “Live long and prosper. Also, neuter your pets to avoid trible troubles.”

Private services will be held in Hayward, WI. Should friends desire, contributi­ons may be sent to The Lustgarten Foundation (Pancreatic Cancer Research,) pet shelter, or an organizati­on that supports firefighte­rs.
