O’Keeffe breaks marathon record

ORLANDO, Fla. — Fiona O’Keeffe smashed the women's U.S. Olympic marathon trials record in her debut at the distance on a warm Saturday at Orlando, Fla., to secure her spot in the Paris Games.

O'Keeffe finished in a time 2 hours, 22 minutes, 10 seconds to break the American marathon trials mark of 2:25:38 set by Shalane Flanagan in 2012 in Houston. Emily Sisson, the U.S. marathon record holder, was second and Dakotah Lindwurm surged into third to make Team USA for Paris.

On the men's side, Conner Mantz and Clayton Young finished 1-2 to qualify for Paris.

Former Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury isn't going to Las Vegas to become the Raiders' offensive coordinato­r after all, a person informed of the decision told The Associated Press on Saturday.

Kingsbury, the former Texas Tech head coach, had agreed to join Antonio Pierce’s staff Thursday, but he couldn't reach a deal with the Raiders, so he told the team he's pursuing other options.

ESPN reported Saturday that Kingsbury was a leading candidate to run the offense for new head coach Dan Quinn in Washington.

AQUATICS

Osmar Olvera Ibarra gave Mexico its second diving gold medal in the history of the World Aquatics Championsh­ips, winning the men's 1-meter springboar­d on Saturday at Doha, Qatar.

Olvera became the first diver from a country other than China to claim the top spot in the event since Alexandre Despatie of Canada in 2005.

NASCAR

Denny Hamlin,

who wasn't even sure he'd be healed from offseason shoulder surgery in time to compete in the Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, won the Saturday night exhibition that NASCAR hurried into a one-day show to avoid a dangerous “Pineapple Express” storm headed toward California.

Kyle Busch finished second in a Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing.
