MARIE (MANCE) MADELIENE PEERY

Marie (Mance) Madeliene Peery passed away on February 11, 2024. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Andrew Thomas (Tom) Peery Jr. of Houston, her two adult children Tristan Peery and Katherine Gillman, son-in-law Chris Gillman, three loving grandchildren, extended family in Montreal and Washington and lifelong friends.

Mance was born in Quebec City in 1948 and became a US citizen in the 1990s. Her relatives still reside there and she always remained passionate about Canada. Her maiden name, Le Guerrier, means

“the warrior” which she exhibited until her passing. In her younger days, Mance was a flight attendant for Air Canada, had traveled to 49 countries and spoke three languages. She loved to ski, dance, throw parties and be creative.

Mance and Tom had an iconic love story that began in 1974 on Waikiki beach. They danced through life together in Houston. They grew their family in West University, including two children, had an active church life at St Vincent de Paul, were marriage counselors to young engaged couples, and were enthusiastic members of the Houston Tango community for over two decades. Mance was an extraordinary wife and mother as well as being an accomplished CPA, bobbin lace maker, a self taught botanist and successful gardener. An avid reader, she was knowledgeable on birds, wildlife, business, finance, politics, and entertaining. She knitted blankets for parents of still born babies at Texas Children’s as her form of charity as well as serving many years at the Houston Food Bank.

Mance will be remembered for being an excellent friend, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, a selfless caregiver, and a brave warrior against cancer. Her legacy will live on as we remember her kind spirit and giving heart. Her celebration of life will take place at Earthman Bellaire on April 18, 2024 at 11:30am. Requested attire will be bright spring colors in honor of her love for flowers.
