Sister Ann Lynch, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX passed away on March 27, 2024. May she now enjoy the fullness of eternal life with God forever.

Sister was born Hannah Maria Lynch in Cahirciveen, Co. Kerry, Ireland to Denis and Deborah (O’Sullivan) Lynch. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word at St. Michael’s Convent, Ireland where she began her initial formation process. Sister Ann consecrated her life to God through Profession of Perpetual Vows at Villa de Matel on August 6, 1976.

Sr Ann graduated from Sacred Heart Dominican College, Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She began her ministry of teaching religious education in East Bernard and taught in three Catholic Schools in Texas; St. Francis of Assisi, Houston, Our Lady of Fatima, Texas City and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Big Spring.

From 1981- 1983 she attended Loyola University, New Orleans and graduated with a MA in Theology. She was then missioned to Guatemala where she taught classes until 1985.

When Sr. Ann returned to Houston after a Sabbatical Year, she was called on to minister in several ways, returning to St. Francis of Assisi School, teaching Juniors and Seniors at Incarnate Word Academy, and serving on the Peace and Justice Forum and many other committees until 1998.That year she began to teach English as a Second Language. When she realized that some of her students had not learned to read in Spanish, she set up classes for them to learn Spanish first and then learn English. She wrote enthusiastically about this ministry and rejoiced with all her students who were able to complete high school, become citizens and get jobs. She was very proud of their accomplishments.

With happy memories of her teaching years, Sr. Ann retired to a ministry of prayer and presence.

Sister is survived by three sisters: Mary Lynch (Scott Enger), in Fulshear, Texas, Bride (John) O’Callaghan and Eileen (Tom) O’Shea, both in Ireland; and five brothers: Denis Lynch, Tim (Sheila) Lynch, Tom (Anne Marie) Lynch and Patrick (Frances) Lynch in Ireland and Michael (Noreen) Lynch in England and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Ireland, England and the United States.

We extend a special thanks to the Sisters and staff for their gentle and loving care for Sister Ann during Sister’s later years.
