EDWIN REED

05/04/1958 - 03/08/2024

-

Edwin (“Ted”) Albert Reed, Jr. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. Born to Ed and Valma Reed, Ted was a lifelong Houstonian and attended Strake Jesuit and Texas A&M University. He died after a year and a half fight with pancreatic cancer.

After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, Ted married the love of his life, Mary Ann Wiessing, on November 28, 1981. Ted joined his father’s company, Ed Reed Co., in 1984, where he made his career in manufacture sales until 2022.

Ted loved sailing, music, gardening, coffee, his chiminea, and spending time with family and friends at home and in Galveston, Lake Tahoe, and Santa Fe. He enjoyed traveling, particularly to meet up with one of his kids in a far-flung location like Cape Cod or Prague. He was a proud and engaged parent who instilled his values of generosity, loyalty, and love of family in his children. His family and friends will remember him as gentle, curious, and a lot of fun.

Ted is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Reed and his children, Christopher (Hannah), Mark (Natalie), and Erica Lee (Benjamin). He was also a doting grandfather to Max, Rio, Maya and Rebecca; a fond brother to Vivienne Rice (Ashby) and Luisa Hamilton (Joe); a dear cousin to Al Reed (Sharie); and a friend to so many, in Houston and Galveston, who adored his relaxed and sweet demeanor.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, his family encourages donations to Houston Hospice, MD Anderson, or the charity of your choice.
