Houston’s most expensive homes sold in March

- By Marissa Luck STAFF WRITER

It’s no surprise that Houston’s most expensive home sold in March was the 17,405-squarefoot estate once owned by real estate legend Gerald D. Hines. The DeMontrond family, which own more than a dozen regional auto dealerships from Cleveland to Texas City, bought 2920 Lazy Lane in a deal the Houston Association of Realtors considered to be second-priciest transaction ever in the Houston area.

But plenty of other beautiful homes traded hands last month in Houston, including a contemporary Tanglewood home with an air conditioned indoor/outdoor kitchen and a Memorial home abutting a wooded ravine and its own air-conditioned doghouse. Dive into some of the details and photos of the priciest recent home sales in Houston below.

Hines and his wife commissioned New York-based Robert A.M. Stern Architects to design their River Oaks estate to resemble an Italian-style villa with influences from their holidays in Tuscany. Thick foliage creates a sense of privacy for the 4.5-acre property. The house includes a library with leather-tiled floors and burgundy paneled walls, a circular main dining room and a saloon with custom timber woodwork. It was listed for $20 million, although the final sale price wasn’t disclosed.
