Virginia “Genny” Newell McIntyre, was born on the 25th of January 1956, in Cambridge, Massachusetts and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday the 21st of May 2024.

As a transplanted Texan, Genny went to Memorial High School in Houston and graduated from the University of Texas Summa Cum Laude with a BS degree in Computer Science and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Genny worked for 25 years in the oil and gas industry as a Software Engineer. In 1991, Genny married John, the love of her life, and retired in 1995 to be a full-time mom. Genny dedicated her life to her two beautiful children, Madi and Mason. She was fully involved in every aspect of their lives, becoming a part of their schools, sports and organizations.

Genny was the President of the Parents Association at St. Francis Episcopal Day School where she was also a proud participant of the Arts Alliance. She was President of the Women’s Auxiliary of Post Oak Little League, and Chair of the YEES Senior Events at Episcopal High School. Genny was the President of the Mother’s Association “Minerva” for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Texas. She was also a member of the Chancellor’s Council as well as the Liberal Arts Board at UT.

As a devout member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Genny served as a member of the Vestry, President of the Episcopal Women’s Council, past President and longtime member of the Altar Guild, and was honored to be on the Endowment Board of the Church.

After experiencing a terrifying home robbery, Genny developed a passion to fight crime and encouraged the Houston community to exercise their right to vote.

She and her friends started a grass roots organization called Citizens United Against Crime, or “CUAC” as she liked to call it. She spent countless hours working to boost voter awareness by emailing, calling, texting, and block walking to spread the word.

Genny leaves behind a grieving network of friends who loved her dearly. She enjoyed dancing, playing Mah-Jongg, workouts at

HCC, traveling with family and friends, Tex Mex on Friday nights, lunches with the Birthday Girls, walking her dogs Walter and Daisy, catching up with friends, and always, organizing life for John, Madi and Mason. She touched everyone she met, and truly lit up every room with her smile, her grace, her elegance, and her fun-loving spirit.

Genny is preceded in death by her parents, Ozzie and Virginia Newell, and her sisters Mary Becker and Debbie Bidock, whom she adored.
