Shale-Inland Holdings is buying 40 acres from Pearland Independent School District to construct a 210,000-squarefoot facility to serve as the company’s regional warehouse and office complex.

The company is spending $2.6 million to purchase the property. The company’s total investment, including construction of the warehouse and office complex and installation of equipment, is estimated at $21 million, said Melissa Black, marketing director for the Pearland Economic Development Corp., which helped facilitate the project. Shale-Inland has headquarters in Houston and operates 42 facilities worldwide. The company supplies metal, pipe, valves, fittings and related products and also provides technical assistance to the energy and industrial sectors, according to the company’s website.

The Pearland complex will allow the company to consolidate its pipe, fitting and flange Houston operations. The new facility also will group management from a number of the Shale-Inland’s family of enterprises, including Southwest Stainless and Alloy, Multalloy, J&J Bar and J&J Alloy.

Officials from Brazoria County, the city of Pearland and the economic development corporation worked with Shale-Inland to find the site. City and EDC officials began working with Shale-Inland in late 2013. The selected site is part of 97 acres owned by the school district, and the property for the sale was made available through a cooperative intergovernmental deal.

“The support of the Pearland community leadership will help this team position for significant growth as a key part of Shale-Inland’s overall global strategy,” Frank Riddick, Shale-Inland’s CEO, said in a news release. Shale-Inland’s Pearland warehouse complex will be built near the northwest corner of Texas 35 and Bailey Road. It is in a 121.6-acre tax reinvestment zone created by the city in 2012 to encourage industrial development, stimulate job creation and add to the city’s tax base.

The reinvestment zone where Shale-Inland is building has been a focus for the EDC and the city. The entities invested in utilities and infrastructure, including the Bailey Road overpass, to encourage area development.

The city and county will consider agreements during the next month to finalize Shale-Inland’s selection of Pearland for the facility, which will be designed and built by American Commercial Contractors. The facility will include office, distribution and warehouse space, as well as an eight-acre pipe yard. Approximately 80 employees will work at the compound. Insurance agency builds new office
