Legislative affairs

Reason lacking

-

Regarding “Making a point” (Page B8, Thursday), my politics are what I would call independent, since there doesn’t seem to be a place for moderation in either party.

I’ve been extremely frustrated that the Legislature seems to do what is politically expedient as opposed to what’s best for a preponderance of their constituents.

Texas seems to have adapted the fed’s penchant for kicking important things down the road. I’m particularly concerned about our system of ethics, our legal system, campaign reform where candidates don’t go to the highest bidders and the shameful lack of attention to our rotting infrastructure.

I don’t always agree with the editorials, but this one sums up my frustration with our legislative sessions.

I support the right to bear arms, but not in the manner in which we’re now starting to do it and with the overkill guns that many gun owners fight so hard for, and don’t get me started on opencarry.

Texas is now a perfect example of the political polarization that has overcome the sensibility of compromise and seems to have almost completely submerged the age of reason.

Our Legislature will now go home patting themselves on the back for another “job well done,” but to me it’s another “well, we’re done.”
