Hinckley JosepH (Joe) Foster

1937-2015

-

Joe entered the next phase of life on June 21, 2015, after a brave battle with cancer. All who knew Joe knew he loved life and was usually the life of the party. Joe never met a stranger.

Joe was born on December 13, 1937 in Manhattan, New York City, but grew up in Lafayette, California. He graduated from Acalanes High School and the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was the consummate engineer, and could fix anything.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Aggie; his two children, Linda Ann Ellsworth and her husband John, and Michael Hinckley Foster and his wife, Kay; he is also survived by 4 grandchildren.

Joe retired from Shell Oil Company in 1993 after 34 years of service. He loved each and every minute of his diverse working life. His favorite assignment with Shell was spent in London, England during the last 5 years of his career. He was a true “car guy”, and loved motor racing, especially Formula One and his Ferrari team. He was fortunate to be able to travel the world, both with the job and personally.

Joe loved volunteering his time at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and worked in many different areas over the last 15 years. His final assignment was in the Hospitality Center in the Mays Clinic. No matter how sick he was, he always tried to give his Friday afternoon to others.

There will be no services at this time, per Joe’s request. There will be a party and life tribute near his birthday in December.

Any donations in his memory should be made to Houston Hospice (www. houstonhospice.org), who cared lovingly for Joe until his death.
