Nursing college names campus president
Chamberlain College of Nursing appointed Nancy Yuill as president of its recently opened Pearland campus.
Yuill brings more than 40 years of academic and leadership experience to the role, according to a biography provided by the college. She previously served as the dean of the College of Nursing at Houston Baptist University.
As president of Chamberlain College of Nursing’s Pearland campus, Yuill oversees implementation of the college’s academics and curriculum in addition to the management of its day-to-day operations.
The nursing college announced the appointment June 22. Yuill said she is thrilled and honored to join Chamberlain College of Nursing’s Pearland campus.
Located at 12000 Shadow Creek Parkway, the campus began offering classes in March. Students enrolled at the college pursue bachelor of science degrees in nursing that can be completed within three years of year-round study versus a typical four-year pursuit with summers off. The campus features the college’s Simcare Center, which provides students with simulated patient care in clinical learning environments.
“Our programs prepare nurses to be skilled, compassionate leaders who treat their patients and colleagues with an individualized level of care,” she said. “As nursing demand continues to rise in Texas, Chamberlain’s Pearland campus will continue to meet the need of preparing the next generation of nursing leaders.”
Hospitals in the state currently have a higher registered nurse vacancy rate than those seen in other comparably-sized states such as California, Florida and New York, according to a 2014 Hospital Nurse Staffing Survey conducted by the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies.
Chamberlain College of Nursing is part of DeVry Education Group, which operates for-profit higher education institutions. The Pearland campus is Chamberlain College of Nursing’s second in Texas and among 17 in the United States. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of the eight regional agencies that accredit colleges and universities in the United States.
Medical group opens urgent care facility
Memorial Hermann opened its first urgent care facility in Friendswood June 24.
Memorial Hermann Urgent Care, located at 1505 E. Winding Way in Suite 112, provides walk-in care for non-life-threatening health conditions. It is staffed with board-certified family medicine physicians from the Memorial Hermann Medical Group. The urgent care clinic treats patients as young as 6 months old and older. It is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The facility is the first of its kind for the Memorial Hermann system, said David James, CEO of the medical group, in a news release.
“Our community is growing, and our healthcare needs are changing,” he said. “We’re committed to meeting those changes by providing the appropriate level of high quality, convenient care to the communities we serve.”
The 4,711-square-foot urgent care facility serves Friendswood and the surrounding communities. Primary care physicians who are members of the Memorial Herman Medical Group will be able to review the electronic health records of their patients who visit the clinic.
The medical group continues to plant stakes in the Friendswood and Pearland areas. Memorial Hermann’s Convenient Care Center opened last year in Pearland. It offers lab and radiology services in addition to a 24-hour emergency room.
The medical group also is constructing a hospital in Pearland. The 64-bed acute-care hospital is scheduled to open early next year. Design plans include an intensive care unit, cardiac catheterization labs, medical and surgical units and women’s and neonatology services.
Emergency health care provider honored
Dr. Setul Patel, the president and co-founder of a Pearland company that operates a number of freestanding emergency rooms in Texas, was named the 2015 EY Health Care Entrepreneur of the Year for the Gulf Coast Region.
Patel and nine other Gulf Coast area entrepreneurs were recognized at a June 25 gala in Houston.
Honorees were recognized for their vision, leadership and achievement in 10 categories including Business Services, Energy, Family business, Technology and Health Care, the category Patel won.
The awards are a program of EY, a global assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services firm. EY is part of Ernst & Young LLP, an international professional services company. In its 29th year, the awards program recognizes business leaders in more than 145 cities in 60 countries.
There were 38 finalists for EY’s Gulf Coast regional award. As local EY Entrepreneur of the Year winners, Patel and the other category honorees are now eligible for the program’s national recognition.
Awards are issued in several regions and lead up to a national awards program to be held Nov. 14 in Palm Springs, California.
The winner of the national program will move on as a finalist in EY’s World Entrepreneur of the Year Award to be held in Monaco next June.
Patel, who remains a practicing physician, helped create Neighbors Health System in 2008. The emergency health care company operates Neighbors Emergency Center facilities. Besides co-founding the company and serving as its president, Patel is chief executive officer of Neighbors Health System.
According to the company’s website, there are 11 of the freestanding emergency rooms in the state.
