Pearland expands course offerings

The city of Pearland is adding beginning birding classes to its outdoor recreation course offerings in the fall. Free workshops about the classes are set for 2 p.m. July 14 and Aug. 11 at the Pearland Westside Library, 2803 Business Center Drive. Town hall meeting

District 29 Texas Rep. Ed Thompson, R-Pearland, will host a town hall meeting to discuss the 84th Legislativ­e Session from 6-7 p.m. Monday, July 13, at the Alvin Train Depot, 200 Depot Centre Blvd., Alvin. Call 281-485-6565.

Airport system update

Perry J. Miller, general manager, William P. Hobby Airport, will be the featured speaker at the July 14 membership meeting of the AlvinManve­l Area Chamber of Commerce at the Nolan Ryan Center, 1400 Texas 6, Alvin. Join a CERT team

Alvin will host a Community Emergency Response Team course starting July 14, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Learn disaster preparedne­ss for hazards that may impact the area and be trained in basic disaster response skills.
