Tomball growth spurs boom in apartments

-

Business growth and road construction in Tomball have led to a growth in multifamily housing as well. The number of apartments in the Tomball area has doubled in the last two years, said Bruce McClenny, president of Apartment Data Services in Houston, which analyzes apartment trends throughout the region. There are 5,127 units in the area now, compared with 2,500 a year ago, he said. The growth has helped fill a void of multifamily housing in the area, McClenny said. “The numbers were so low to begin with and then all of the sudden there’s a big rush to develop and you have so many properties going in,” McClenny said. — Tamra Santana

New community takes shape in Spring area

A new master-planned community is sprouting in Spring to keep up with a growing area workforce. Lakes at Creekside is underway near the southwest corner of Kuykendahl and Hufsmith, with the first homes expected to be finished in February 2016. The 286-acre community is centrally located, less than a mile from The Woodlands and six miles to the new Exxon Mobil Corp.’s 385acre Spring campus. The community is also three miles north of the Grand Parkway. Lakes at Creekside is one of several housing communities under construction in the area as 10,000 new employees are starting work at Exxon Mobil Corp. and Southwestern Energy Co., one of the largest producers of natural gas in the United States, opened its new headquarters in the area.
