Summer Creek is in for another challenging season in District 16-6A, but it’s definitely not without talent.

Tight end Zarrian Holcombe is among the most talented players in the state.

The senior Texas A&M pledge was named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine’s third-team Super Team Offense.

“That’s great for him,” coach Brian Ford said.

“I don’t really think about that stuff a whole lot, but I’m not surprised. He was so highly recruited.”

Holcombe, a 6-6, 220-pound tight end, is entering his third year. He didn’t see much time as a sophomore, but his potential was on display last season, with 14 receptions for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

“He had a good year,” Ford said.

“He’s just got a lot of talent. He’s right at 6-6 and running probably a low 4.6, high 4.5, and he can catch the ball.”

Ford sees more passes going his way this year.

“He’s going to be a really tough matchup problem for people,” he said. “He’s 6-6 and can run. He’s going to be tough to deal with.”

Holcombe isn’t the only area player on Dave Campbell’s Super Team.

Kingwood running back/safety Sewo Olonilua is a first-team Super Team pick – on the defensive side.

The TCU verbal supplied 51 tackles and 433 rushing yards last season.

Other Houston-area Super Team picks include first-teamers Jalen Hurts, Channelview’s quarterback, and Manvel wide receiver Reggie Hemphill on offense and Westfield defensive lineman Ed Oliver – the preseason defensive player of the year – and Westside DL Jordan Elliott on defense.

Atascocita defensive end Jackson Reed is Dave Campbell’s preseason Defensive MVP for District 16-6A.

He produced 92 tackles and 10 sacks last year.

The Eagles are picked to finish second in the district behind The Woodlands and ahead of Oak Ridge and Kingwood, which is tabbed to place fourth and grab the final playoff spot.
