Georgie Josephine Jurchak, age 90, passed away to be with the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. She was born on August 16, 1924 in Wallis, Texas to Joe & Julia Barta. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church. She attended Concord school in Fairchild, TX and graduated from Lamar High School in Richmond in 1942. After graduation she left for Houston where she worked at Henke and Pillot and attended M&M Business School at night. The school sent her to her first secretaria­l position at Schumaker Wholesale. Later she was offered a position in the Transporta­tion Department at Todd Shipbuildi­ng. She left her job in July 1945 to marry the love of her life, Sydney S. Jurchak on August 4, 1945 in the Rosenberg Brethren Church. They made their home in Houston where they raised three children: Beverly Ann Sommer, Ronney Lynn Jurchak and Vicki Jean Zajicek. She was very active in the PTA while her children were in school. She was a Cub Scout Leader and taught the kindergart­en class at the Houston Brethren Church for 15 years. In 1968 Sydney was transferre­d to New Orleans, LA with the Folger’s Coffee Company. While in New Orleans, she worked for Industrial Air & Hydraulics. In 1985 she and Sydney moved back to Houston where she was once again able to attend the Houston Brethren Church which she loved. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 271 of Rosenberg and a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge 88 where she served on the entertainm­ent committee for 15 years. Preceded in death by parents Joe & Julia Barta, daughter Beverly Ann Sommer, brother Victor Barta and sister Helen Bryson. She is survived by her husband, Sydney Jurchak, Son Ronney Jurchak & his wife Glenda, daughter Vicki Zajicek & husband Larry, and son-in-law & daughter-inlaw, Lyndon & Betty Sommer. She is also survived by her brother Herman Barta & his wife Gladys. Two grandchild­ren, Lee Ann Lawrence & husband Brian and Lesley Sommer & wife Heather . The family would like to thank the staff of The Heritage Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Tomball, Texas and the AMED Hospice for their loving care of our mother. What a wonderful life this amazing woman gave her family. Her faith in the Lord and the support of daddy helped her through some trying times in her life. We will miss her so much. Rest in peace mama. The family will greet friends 5-8PM, Friday, July 10, 2105 at Klein Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 10AM, Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Klein Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Terrill officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Klein Memorial Park, SH249. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Houston Brethern Church, 6207 N. Main St., Houston, TX 77009. Because of Georgie’s love of the color red, the family requests those attending wear red.
