Sam A. Guzzetta, 91 of Houston, Texas went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2015. A native Houstonian was born on January 10, 1924 to Biagio and Josephine Marino Guzzetta. He attended Jefferson Davis High School and graduated with the class of 1942. He joined the United States Marine Corps where he served for 4 years in World War II in the Pacific Theater, was a Iwo Jima survivor, and finished his service to our great nation as a Sargent. He later donated his war memorabili­a to The National Museum of The Pacific War in Fredericks­burg, Texas.

Upon completing his service he returned to Houston where he met and fell in love with Jeanette Bilao and married in February, 1948. They were married for 51 years when his beloved wife, Jeanette passed away.

Sam lived a vital life and had a wide range of interests, most important to him was his love for family. He was in the grocery business with his brother, Joe for over 40 years. They served the southeast Houston area as a specialty meat market and a full service grocery store. He was a long time member and past president of the Retail Grocers Associatio­n of Houston, past president and current member of The Sacred Heart Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 9201. He did not stop there upon retirement but went on to working for the City of Houston as a electrical plan checker and continued this interest with teaching others at Houston Community College and San Jacinto College for many years. In his later years he fell in love once again and married Antoinette Palermo in 2000 and treasured and embraced this new addition of family members as his own.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Jeanette Guzzetta, his brother Joe Guzzetta, his sisters Bernard Trapolino, Madeline Guerrero and grand daughter Mary Jeanette Guzzetta. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Antoinette Guzzetta, his sister Rose Piccolo, and children Blaise and Rhonda Guzzetta, Steve Guzzetta, Sam, Jr. and Margaret Guzzetta, and Bernie Guzzetta and Mary Bess Salvaggio and daughter Jeanice Netzel and son-in-law Michael Netzel. Also stepchildr­en LJ Palermo and wife Rose Mary, Theresa Ignus and husband Leonard, Carolyn Grizzaffi and husband Michael and Bernadette Grizzaffi and husband Frank, 15 grandchild­ren and 23 great grandchild­ren as well as 6 step grandchild­ren and 10 step great grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family Friday, August 21, 2015 at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road, Houston, Texas, 77089 beginning at 10:00 a.m., with a rosary at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Internment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.
