COLORADO ROCKIES

The club called up catcher Dustin Garneau from Class AAA Albuquerque to replace catcher Michael McKenry, who needs surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season.

DETROIT TIGERS

Daniel Norris became just the 19th pitcher to hit a home run in his first major league at-bat. Norris lined a two-run drive off Jon Lester in his first plate appearance during the second inning of Wednesday night’s game against the Cubs.

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The team traded six-time All-Star second baseman Chase Utley to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Class AAA outfielder Darnell Sweeney and Class A righthander John Richy.

Utley didn’t play in the Phillies’ 7-4 win over Toronto but got a standing ovation afterward and tipped his cap to the crowd.

“The hardest part is leaving the city of Philadelphia,” Utley, 36, said.

Utley is batting .217 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 249 at-bats.

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

The team plans to place Hunter Pence on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique, a move timed with activating Nori Aoki, who has been on the DL with a concussion.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the team believes Pence will be back by the end of the 15 days.

Pence was injured flying out in the ninth inning Monday.

Aoki will likely get regular playing time in right field because of Pence’s absence.

TEXAS RANGERS

The team recalled infielder Hanser Alberto, 22, from Class AAA Round Rock and designated infielder Adam Rosales, 32, for assignment.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Mark Buehrle (13-6) had his shortest outing of the season Wednesday night, giving up four runs and seven hits in just four innings.

Since May 29, Buehrle hadn’t allowed more than three earned runs in his last 13 starts while going at least seven innings in 11 of those games.
