There’s an app for Humble ISD parents

Free tool to increase communication between district, parents and students

The Humble Independent School District is looking for ways to increase communication and change with the times as students go back to school Aug. 24.

Parents in the district can better monitor children’s grades and have a direct link to district or school events through the Humble ISD app, which is available for Android and iPhone and is free through the district website.

“The Humble ISD mobile app was launched this school year to make information more conveniently available to parents and the public,” said Jamie Mount, Humble ISD’s director of public information.

“The new app provides an easy way to look up information on-the-go.

“Busy parents can open the app to check grades or read about a school activity from their smart phone, iPad or tablet.” The idea came from trustee Angela Conrad who saw a demonstration of a school district app at an education conference last year, and suggested it to district officials.

The app was obtained at no additional expense because it was included in the service package purchased from

SchoolMessenger, Mount said.

SchoolMessenger, according to its webpage, has built an always-on network that is used by some of the nation’s largest school districts.

Humble ISD will be using SchoolMessenger in 2015-16 to send mass emails and text messages to parents.

“By switching to SchoolMessenger, the district was able to negotiate a contract that included the mobile app along with emails and texts without spending more,” Mount said.

The district spends about $150 per month, per school, for this service package.

The Humble ISD app is available for anyone to download free from the App Store or Google Play store.

Download the app by visiting www.humbleisd. net/mobileapp.

The app consists of a scrolling banner showcasing current district news and buttons including inside Humble ISD, schools, home access center for student’s grades and attendance, news, calendar, lunch, notifications, connect with us for social media links, settings, employment and staff.

All app users receive district news in addition to news from their schools of choice.

When the app is first downloaded, users customize it by selecting campuses of interest.

Other buttons, like “home access center,” only work for parents with a secure login and password, Mount said
