Regarding “U.N. to let Iran inspect alleged nuke work site” (Page A1, Thursday), the Iran nuclear deal, now known to include self-inspection of military sites, seems like a farcical game of “Mullah may I,” but in reality the process is designed to fail.

Ultimately, Iran’s nuclear weapons program can be stopped only by the credible threat of military force. Once it became clear that this option was off the table, only the timing was in question.

The current supposedly face-saving deal is designed to allow Iran to become a nuclear threshold state with the appearance of international oversight. In order to be officially ignorant of obvious facts that might force us to act, it is important that blatant violations, which legitimate inspections would uncover, remain undetected.
