Giants hold off Pirates

PITTSBURGH — Madison Bumgarner homered in his second straight start and struck out six in 6 1 ⁄3 innings to lift the San Francisco Giants to a 6-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.

Bumgarner crushed a Jeff Locke fastball 418-feet over the wall in left field in the second inning, a two-run shot that gave the Giants an early four-run lead and all the cushion Bumgarner would need on the mound. Bumgarner (15-6) allowed two runs on five hits, walking one while winning his fourth consecutiv­e decision.

Marlon Byrd had three hits, including a two-run homer, in his debut with San Francisco after being acquired in a trade with Cincinnati on Thursday.

METS 14, ROCKIES 9: Yoenis Cespedes hit three home runs, including a grand slam, and had a career-high seven RBIs, and New York overpowere­d host Colorado.

CUBS 5, BRAVES 3: Kris Bryant and Miguel Montero had consecutiv­e RBI doubles in the sixth as Chicago extended Shelby Miller’s winless skid to 17 games with a victory over Atlanta at Wrigley Field.

RED SOX 7, ROYALS 2: Johnny Cueto had his worst start since coming to Kansas City just before the trading deadline, and Boston beat the AL Central-leading Royals at Fenway Park to send them to their second straight loss.

INDIANS 7, YANKEES 3: Carlos Carrasco struck out 11, Carlos Santana homered, and Cleveland stopped New York once again, beating the AL East leaders at Yankee Stadium.

BREWERS 10, NATIONALS 3: Domingo Santana homered in his Milwaukee debut, and the Brewers took advantage of several defensive miscues in a win at Washington.

TWINS 4, ORIOLES 3: Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run single in the eighth inning to cap a comeback against All-Star reliever Darren O’Day and carry Minnesota past host Baltimore.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 6, REDS 3: Rubby De La Rosa allowed two runs in seven innings, and A.J. Pollock homered while enjoying his second consecutiv­e four-hit game to help Arizona send host Cincinnati to its seventh straight loss.

PHILLIES 7, MARLINS 1: Jerad Eickhoff pitched six scoreless innings and drove in two runs in his major league debut to help Philadelph­ia to a win over host Miami.
