Five story lines to watch

-

More to come?: Dickinson had its best season in years with a trip to the Class 6A Division I quarterfinals. Does the team have what it takes to return to an elite level again this year? Well, the Gators do have an extra incentive after coach John Snelson was diagnosed with throat cancer over the summer.

A higher power: Last season was Friends-wood’s first in Class 6A after years of being a 4A (then 5A) power. The Mustangs proved they belong by not only making the playoffs but getting a bidistrict victory over Hightower. They will have something to say about this district title race.

Loaded for a run: Clear Creek exited the playoffs in the first round last year, but the Wildcats could be a trendy pick this time around. Nine starters return on defense, and Clear Creek already has one of the better offenses in the district with quarterback Chase Hildreth and wide receiver Landon Etzel.

Staying healthy: Clear Springs coach Frank Maldonado led his team to the playoffs in 2014 despite dealing with injuries. The Chargers will count on being healthy this season, and they’ll be a favorite for another playoff berth.

New coach in charge: Coming over from a successful Pearland Dawson program, Mike Allison takes over a Clear Brook team searching for a way up in 24-6A. The Wolverines were 1-9 in 2014.
