Jays regain AL East lead

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Edwin Encarnacio­n went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a thunderous three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday with a 12-5 victory that vaulted them back into first place in the AL East.

CUBS 9, BRAVES 3: Kris Bryant homered twice, and Kyle Schwarber connected an inning after hitting a hard foul ball that sent a fan to the hospital as Chicago sent visiting Atlanta to its seventh straight loss.

INDIANS 4, YANKEES 3: Francisco Lindor homered off Dellin Betances in the eighth, Trevor Bauer allowed just two hits in 61⁄3 innings, and Cleveland won at Yankee Stadium.

PIRATES 5, GIANTS 2: Andrew McCutchen hit his 19th homer, and Pedro Alvarez made up for some shaky defense by adding his 20th as host Pittsburgh held off San Francisco.

NATIONALS 9, BREWERS 5: Anthony Rendon and Wilson Ramos homered, Danny Espinosa hit a three-run double, and Washington beat Milwaukee at home.

TWINS 4, ORIOLES 3: Trevor Plouffe hit a tying single in the ninth, and Minnesota took advantage of two errors in the 12th to beat Baltimore for a four-game sweep.

METS 5, ROCKIES 1: Logan Verrett stepped into Matt Harvey’s spot and earned his first big league win in his first start, pitching eight innings and leading New York past Colorado.
