League City historians lead cemetery tours
The League City Historical Society will present “Ghosts of the Past” tours from noon-4 p.m. Oct. 31 at West Bay Common School Children’s Museum, 210 N. Kansas St.

Veterans exhibit honors Texas troops
A national touring exhibit commemorating the lives of Texas troops killed in the Afghanistan and Iraqi conflicts will be on display Nov. 1-12 in the lobby of World’s Gym at Mall of the Mainland in Texas City.
“Remembering Our Fallen” depicts the name, rank and photo of each of the 600 Texans who served the United States during the War on Terror.

Brazoria County held drug take-back effort
The Brazoria County Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force, with support from several community organizations, hosted an official Drug Enforcement Administration Prescription Drug Take Back Day Sept. 26 in Manvel, Pearland and Richwood.
The national initiative encourages citizens to turn in unwanted or expired medications for safe disposal. Some 10,954 pounds of medications were collected in the greater Houston area.

Benefit aids Ronald McDonald House
Chefs created gourmet meals using only McDonald’s ingredients at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston’s Red Shoe Chef event Oct. 8
The evening raised $170,000 to provide medical and dental care to children without insurance.
The organization also recognized local McDonald’s owner Deborah Adams as the Hero of the Heart Honoree for her leadership during the past two decades.

Official promotes safe driving by teens
As part of National Teen Driver Safety Week in October, U.S. Rep. Randy Weber, R-Friendswood, urged young drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Drawing on Ford Motor Co.’s Driving Skills for Life, he advised drivers to:
• engage in the driving process; • buckle up; • slow down; • avoid driving while distracted;
• never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol; and • abide by a curfew. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicle accidents are a leading cause of death for 15- to 19-year-olds in the United States.
