Nassau Bay

Clear Creek Community Theatre brings F. Andrew Leslie’s adaption of Shirley Jackson’s novel, “The Haunting of Hill House,” to its stage through Nov. 8.

Performances are set for 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays at the theater at 18091 Upper Bay Road.

Director Robert Meek loves the horror genre and notes that for the past few years the genre has been seriously neglected on stage.

“When the original movie adaptation came out, it terrified audiences all over, and the root story has gone on to inspire countless horror films and books,” Meek said. “So why not take it back to where it all began?”

Cut off from the outside world by its remote location and shunned by all who know its forbidding and sinister reputation, Hill House has remained empty and silent except for the daily visits of its grumbling caretaker, Mrs. Dudley. Its isolation is broken by the arrival of Dr. Montague, an investigator whose mission is to delve into the morbid history of the house and to come to grips with the occult forces that have made it uninhabitable for many years. He is joined by three others, and at first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena.

As they struggle to disguise their mounting fears, the group is joined by Dr. Montague’s wife and a friend, who have come to Hill House for purposes of their own. Their research into the supernatural brings on a crisis in which the evil forces of Hill House are goaded to a new and fatal fury.

Tickets are $13 to $15 and group rates are available. Tickets may be purchased online at www. clearcreekcommunitytheatre.com or by calling the box office at 281-335-5228.

“Steel Magnolias” is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in a small town in Louisiana. All the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done while sharing the latest gossip and joys of friendship. Loudd, the play’s director. “At a time when our lives are so fast-paced, ‘Steel Magnolias’ is a good reminder of the power of friendship, and that the support of our loved ones can see us through just about any type of challenge.”
