Nice reward: The Houston Christian football team has overcome a brutal schedule and numerous injuries to qualify for the Southwest Preparatory Conference playoffs for the fourth straight year. The Mustangs (5-4) travel to Fort Worth All Saints at noon Saturday, Oct. 31, in a small-school semifinal.

Houston Christian is a threat to claim its first SPC girls volleyball crown. The Mustangs, 30-7 overall and 4-1 in the South Zone, feature four seniors who have committed to colleges – outside hitter Claire Karsten (Texas A&MCorpus Christi), middle blocker Lauren Skrobarczyk (Trinity), setter Bree Perry (St. Mary’s) and libero Caitlin Clarke (Wake Forest).
