James Otho Knight

1930-2015

-

James Otho Knight, 85, of Houston, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, November 15, 2015.

Jim was born June 9, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas, where he lived until 1991 when he moved to Houston. He was Assistant Scout Master - BSA Troop 179 in Ft Worth from 1966 to 1974, and a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge, served as Worshipful Master of the Cade-Rothwell Lodge in Houston 1998-1999. He was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Ft Worth, and then St Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston.

Early in his career, Jim worked as an Illumination Engineer for Texas Electric, and then as an electrical equipment salesman for over 30 years. After moving to Houston, Jim worked at Bering’s hardware, where he retired at the age of 81.

He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Whether you knew him as Jim, Jimmie, or J.O., you knew him as a friendly man, yearning to swap stories and brag about his family. He was “Mr. Fix-it”; a handyman for his friends’ home-repair projects, enjoyed “piddling” in his shop and building models. He loved to sing, and was making a joyful noise with his last breath.

He is survived by Barbara Bamberg-Knight, his wife and “Angel” of 26 years, sister Margaret Knight of Houston, son George Knight and wife Jane of Arlington, daughter Susan Flowers and husband Allen of Ft Worth, stepson Todd Bamberg and wife Julia of Chicago, six grandchildren, one great grandchild and countless extended family.

Jim’s memorial service will be at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Rd, Houston 77027.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to “Friends of Music” at St. Luke’s, or Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030.
