Henry Winkler visits The Buckingham

-

Residents and special guests recently enjoyed “A Conversation with Henry Winkler” at The Buckingham, one of Houston’s premier senior living communities. The visit was part of The Buckingham Red Carpet Speaker Series.

Winkler discussed his diverse career that extends far beyond his best-known role as “The Fonz” on the TV show Happy Days. Winkler discussed his acting career and his love and inspiration for writing children’s books.

The community also held a private meet-andgreet session with Winkler and a book-signing. More than a decade ago, Winkler began writing with co-author Lin Oliver a series of children’s novels inspired by his struggles in school due to Winkler’s learning challenges with unidentified dyslexia.

Moved by Winkler’s recounting of his childhood struggles with dyslexia, The Buckingham saw this event as an opportunity to raise awareness about the learning challenges that so many children face.

The community made a donation of books from Winkler’s children’s series to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and the Houston branch of The International Dyslexia Association.

Julie Baker Finck, president of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, and Mary Yarus with The Houston Branch of The International Dyslexia Association, accepted the donations at The Buckingham’s Red Carpet Speaker Series event.
