A&M slips past Duke in OT; Weaver, A&M-CC sack Rice

DURHAM, N.C. — Courtney Walker and Courtney Williams combined for eight of Texas A&M’s nine points in overtime to lead the No. 12 Aggies over 14th-ranked Duke 72-66 on Wednesday night.

The Blue Devils (2-1) led 64-63 when Williams hit a jumper and Walker scored the Aggies’ next six points before Williams and Rachel Mitchell added free throws.

Walker hit half of her 16 shots to finish with 22 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Jordan Jones added 14 points and Williams 12 for the Aggies (3-0).

Rebecca Greenwell made 8 of 10 shots and led Duke with 22 points.

Shay Weaver’s 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner in the Islanders victory over the Lady Owls at Dugan Wellness Center.

Jasmine Goodwine led with 12 points and seven rebounds for Rice (0-2).

Imani Boyette scored 25 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the No. 11 Longhorns rolled to a victory over the visiting Lady Demons.

Boyette shot 12 of 13 from the field and had eight offensive rebounds. The 6-7 senior center has doubledoub­les in each of her first two games this season.

Tiffany Mitchell scored 18 points to lead the No. 2 Gamecocks to a sluggish win over the visiting Lady Tigers.

Zahna Medley scored 17 points to lead the Lady Frogs to a win over the Lady Mustangs in Fort Worth to improve to 3-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
