1920-2016

-

Odette Claire Amyx, 95, passed away on February 12, 2016 in Houston TX. She was born on May 14, 1920 in Lindsay, LA. to the late Harry and Jeanne Giraud Anderson.

As a young girl she lived in many different places, from Texas to North Africa due to her father’s career as a civil engineer with the US government. She attended 26 different schools during her school years and graduated from Miami University (Ohio) in 1941 with a bachelors degree in languages. This is where she met her future husband, Boone Amyx. After her husband’s military service during WWII, they made the decision to settle in Houston TX to begin their life together raising a family and starting a successful architectural business. As the business grew, so did the family with three sons and one daughter.

Odette was very involved in bridge clubs/tournaments and the Garden Club. She was an avid reader and wonderful story teller, and displayed a quick wit and contagious laugh.

She always enjoyed the family gatherings and once retired, Odette and Boone enjoyed years of travel and adventure together.

Odette was preceded in death by Boone, her beloved husband of 50 years and her son, Boone Amyx Jr. and his wife, Barbara. She is survived by 3 children, David Amyx of Houston, Robert Amyx and wife Janie of Sugar Land, and Claire Amyx Hutchinson of Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren Andy Amyx, Joshua Amyx, Shaye Amyx, James Amyx, Christine and husband Yannick Porcher, Cullen Hutchinson and Scott Hutchinson; great grandchildren Vaughn Amyx, Skylar Amyx, and Aidan Amyx.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at The Settegast-Kopf Company Funeral Directors from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.

The family greatly appreciates the compassionate care she received from the staff at the University Place Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to MD Anderson Cancer Center, American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
