1930-2016

-

Dorothy Jean Buerger, affectionately known as Dottie and “Granny” went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by family on February 15, 2016 after several years of declining health.

Dottie was born February 28, 1930 in Houston, Texas to Dorothy Marie and Brittian Earl Newton. She graduated Milby High School’s class of 1948 and was employed by Texaco in downtown Houston and worked in the business office of The Methodist Hospital. She met the love of her life, William H. Buerger, at First United Methodist Church of Houston. Together they were devoted members of the Adelphi Sunday School class for 50 years. They were also members of First Methodist Church of Conroe’s Beacon Sunday School Class after moving to April Sound to enjoy their retirement years.

Art was another love of her life for many years. She attended art classes and enjoyed painting in watercolors, oils, acrylics and sketching in pastels. Her memory lives on in the many beautiful works of art hanging in loved ones’ homes.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Buerger and her parents Dorothy Marie and Brittian Earl Newton. She is survived by her children, Deborah Ann Sigmon of Austin, Terry Wayne Buerger of Houston, Kimberly Kay Wilkinson of Montgomery; and sister, Jerry Ann Newton of Houston. Dorothy was a loving “Granny” to 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18 in the chapel at First United Methodist Church of Conroe. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and services will be at 11:00 am, followed by graveside services at Forest Park Lawndale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Adelphi Scholarship Fund through the First United Methodist Church of Houston or to First United Methodist Church of Conroe.

The family would like to thank The Rose of Texas Hospice and The Assisted Living Center at Sendera Ranch for their exceptional caregiving.
