MARIANNE NELSON MCCONNELL

Marianne Nelson McConnell of Sugar Land, Texas peacefully passed away on February 13, 2016. Marianne was born in Evanston, IL on November 2, 1934.

She graduated from Maine TWP High School in Park Ridge, IL and attended the University of Oklahoma where she met her husband of 62 years, George (Bud) McConnell. They moved to the Houston area in 1956 and resided most recently in Sugar Land. She was a member of the Sugar Land First United Methodist Church. She was a Chi Omega alumni, and an office holder in the Landwives organizati­on. Marianne was fond of her Norwegian heritage and greatly enjoyed the local annual Norwegian Festival. Her volunteer activities included recording books for the sight impaired, and more recently, working at the “Pantry”, known as the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.

She is survived by her husband Bud; daughters, Leslie Dobbins and husband, King of Ocean Springs, MS and Marcy Murphy and husband, Sean of Katy, TX; and grandson, Liam Murphy.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciati­on to the many friends who assisted Mrs. McConnell and her family. We would also like to thank Berna Lerma for her tender care. Additional thanks to Sugar Land Methodist Hospital, Sugar Land First United Methodist Church and Houston Hospice for their kind attentions during Marianne’s brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, 431 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, Texas, with a reception following at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons in Marianne’s memory may be made to Sugar Land First United Methodist Church, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry or Houston Hospice or the charity of your choice.
