Motorcycle wreck kills man, causes another crash

A fatal motorcycle crash Tuesdaynight led to another crash involving police squad cars and one injured officer on Interstate 10 near Loop 610 in west Houston.

Sgt. James Roque of the Houston Police Department said a motorcycle was traveling on the Katy Freeway ramp to the West Loop about 11 p.m. when he lost control andwas thrown from the motorcycle. He plunged about 50 feet and landed in a grassy area. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Roque said a driver traveling westbound on the Katy Freeway slammed into an HPD sport utility vehicle. The rear of the SUV was mangled, and the front endof the woman’s car was crushed.

The officer who was inside the SUV was hurt and was rushed to Memorial Hermann hospital. Details of his injuries and condition were not released, but police said he is expected to survive.
