House blaze injures firefighte­r, elderly resident

A fire fighter was hurt and a 94-year-old woman was sent to the hospital Tuesdaynig­ht after a blaze swept through a home in northeast Houston.

The fire broke out about 11:50 p.m. in the 2000 block of Common Street near James, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Officials said firefighte­rs helped the elderly woman from the home. Shewas takento a nearby hospital as a precaution.

A fire fighter injured his hand and was takento Memorial Her mann hospital. Details of his injury and condition were not released.

Investigat­ors later determined the home’s water heater somehow sparked the blaze.
