National debt still exists
Regarding “Fight night: Scalia’s seat skews GOP debate” (Page A2, Sunday), I have watched most of the Republican presidential debates, and I have followed the Republican campaigns closely. I am thunderstruck at how little attention Republican candidates are paying to one of the most acute crisis we face in America: our national debt.
Republican politicians once stood for fiscal responsibility, and they did the hard work of explaining to voters why deficits are ruinous. They took the time to articulate policy choices, and the best of them did so with sincerity and compassion. Sadly for all of us, those days seem long gone.
