The Sacramento Kings fired assistant coach Vance Walberg. General manager Vlade Divac announced the move Wednesday, calling it the best thing for the team moving forward. The Kings are in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 22-31 record. They are 4½ games out of a playoff spot. …

Tiago Splitter won’t be able to play for the home team at the Rio Olympics. The Atlanta Hawks center said he will need eight months to recover from hip surgery, costing him a spot on the Brazilian national team this summer. …

Jazz president Randy Rigby said he plans to retire from the position at the end of the season. Rigby will be replaced by Steve Starks, who serves as president of Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainm­ent. The team is owned by the Miller family. Rigby, who has served as president of the Jazz for nine seasons and has been with the parent company since 1986, will move into an organizati­onal adviser role after the season.
