Jennings’ strong ties to state an asset as new UT assistant

-

AUSTIN — After five offseason changes, Charlie Strong’s staff is whole again.

Texas announced Wednesday it has hired Arkansas’ Clay Jennings as defensive backs coach, completing an extensive staff makeover.

Jennings, who held the same job with the Razorbacks, is known for his strong recruiting ties in the Lone Star State, where he played at North Texas and later coached at TCU, Baylor and Houston.

In a statement released by UT, Strong praised Jennings’ “tremendous track record for developing defensive backs.”

Jennings replaces Chris Vaughn, whose contract was not renewed after reports linked him to an NCAA investigation at Mississippi.
