Author to read her new poetry

Wendy Barker will read from “One Blackbird at a Time,” her most recent collection of poems, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Lone Star College-Mont- gomery during the first Writers in Performance series reading of 2016. The event is free and includes a book signing, through a partnership by The Montgomery County Literary Arts Council, Lone Star College-Montgomery, Conroe Commission on the Arts & Culture and the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance.

Barker’s latest collection was recently chosen for The John Ciardi Prize and she’s previously written about Emily Dickinson and co-edited a collection of poems and memoirs about poet Ruth Stone. Barker is Poet-in-Residence and a creative writing professor at University of Texas at San Antonio, as well as editor of the online journal Persimmon Tree, which features exclusively the works of women over 60.
