Community support deep for KI SD livestock show

Guy James savors every moment a grand champion animal is crownedat a livestock show.

It’s his most beloved tradition. James, 59, has witnessed shows for 33 years throughout the state and for 14 at Katy ISD’s FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo. At this year’s 73rd annual showFeb. 17-20, the Big Spring native will for the fourth-straight year head the auction and sales committee.

“There’s not a better feeling than watching the students win,” said James, a former farmer. “That’s what they’ve worked for, what they’ve prepared for. The experience gives them a successful opportunit­y to raise an animal and learn a lot of things along the way.”

The show at the L.D. Robinson Pavilion and rodeo at the W.E. Billy Morgan Rodeo Arena is rooted in the community’s history, dating to when Katy was mostly rice farms and ranches. The event attracts thousands of visitors, brings
