National Charity League honors seniors
The Katy area Azalea Chapter of the National Charity League Inc., plans to honor its 2016 graduat- ing seniors at the annual Senior Recognition banquet and dance scheduled for late February, chapter officials have announced.
The event is planned at the Sugar Land Marriott at Town Center, officials said, and is to celebrate the accomplishments of each of the senior members and recognize her contributions to the community during her six-year tenure in the NCLprogram.
The NCL mission is to foster mother/daughter relationships in a philanthropic group committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences.
Honorees include Cinco Ranch High seniors Anna Arneson, Bethany Barham, Meredith Baughman, Claire Bieber, Madison Goldblum, Rebecca Guilbeau, Gina Martinez, Keely Meloche, Katelynn Moore, Katie Rinderknect, Harleigh Tally, Madelyn Wagner andMeganWard; and Seven Lakes High seniors Claire Ameen, Alexis Hubbard and Morgan McCoy.
Also included are Taylor High seniors Shelby Angel, Hannah Robicheaux and Madeline Robicheaux; Katy High senior Hope Huddleston; Saint Agnes Academy senior Sarah Steffes, and senior Avery Dwyer, who is homeschooled. BP donates $50,000 for teacher grants
BP America Inc. has secured a place as a Katy ISD Education Foundation cornerstone investor for the second consecutive year with a $50,000contribution for STEM-related teacher grants, district officials have announced.
BP STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) grants are administered by the foundation’s “Inspiring Imagination” teacher grant initiative for 2016 grants, officials said.
District officials said the Katy ISD Education Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in teacher grants in its first three years of operation. No out-of-district fees for dual credit at HCC
The Houston Community College Board of Directors has unanimously approved a plan to waive out-of-district fees for dual-credit students, HCC officials have announced.
Beginning wit hthe 2016 fall semester, high school students in the greater Houston region will be able to enroll in the dualcredit program at HCC at no cost, officials said.
Currently, officials said, out-of-district students pay about $216 for each three-hour course. However, the HCCSoar to Success in Dual-Credit program is to allow all high school students from all districts to attend HCC at no charge.
The program allows high school students to earn credit toward high school graduation and toward an associate degree orworkforce program certificate, said HCCofficials.

Seven Lakes High School’s theater department presents the final performances of the musical comedy, “Murders of 1940” Feb. 18-20.

Volunteer mentors with Katy ISD’s KEYS (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) mentoring program are scheduled for kudos at the program’s Ties & Tiaras March 3 gala. The KEYS program, district officials said, is part of the Partners in Education program.
According to district officials, the event is to celebrate mentoring in KISD, as well as to honor Mentors of the Year: Dana Abbott, Katy Junior High, Raines High and Opportunity Awareness Center; Suzanne Webb, McDonald Junior High; David Hornor, Bear Creek Elementary and Cardiff Junior High; Jan Whitehead, Morton Ranch High, and Elizabeth Wikstrom, Bear Creek Elementary.
Also among mentors being honored are Andy Wohlgemuth, Katy Elementary and Katy Junior High; Joey Harvey, Seven Lakes High; Caryl Lancaster, Bear Creek Elementary, and Melinda Solfronk, Cimarron Elementary and Memorial Parkway Junior High.

Tickets are $40 each in advance, $50 at the door. KEYS mentors for 2015-16 school year may attend at no fee, officials noted.
