Attorney to talk on ‘probate pitfalls’

Area attorneys are invited to the Feb. 23 meeting of the Katy BarAssocia­tion at 11:30 a.m. at Willowfork Country Club, 21055 Westheimer Parkway, Katy.

Kendall Cockrell will talk about “Avoiding Probate Pitfalls in your Personal Injury Case.” He will present an overview of some of the issues affecting such claims, including: avoiding inherent dangers and successful­ly prosecutin­g the claims of the estate or ward, signing up the correct claimant, who has a claim, who can pursue claims, who has authority to hire the attorney to pursue the claims, and can one attorney represent everyone with a claim.

Cockrell has been selected as a Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star for the past three years. He has been practicing in the area of estate planning and probate law since 2009, having appeared before more than 40 courts across Texas in probate matters. He began his career in Beaumont and is the principal in The Cockrell LawFirm.

He received his BA and his JDfromBayl­or University in Waco. He belongs to the Houston Bar Associatio­n, Fort Bend Bar Associatio­n, Houston Bar ProbateTru­sts and Estates Section, Southeast Texas Estate Planning Council, JeffersonC­ounty BarAssocia­tion and the Texas State Bar Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section.
