Houston ISD Notebook

Good company: Davis will have a contingent of six athletes – the largest among any Houston ISD school – at the University Interscholastic League State Wrestling Championships this week at the Berry Center. Five girls – juniors Gissel Avellaneda and Ashley Martinez and seniors Dharma Gallegos, Jasmine Gonzalez and Esmeralda Trevino – qualified in their respective weight classes. Senior Mario Martinez is Davis’ only boy to advance to state.

Moving on: Three Lamar boys – senior Riley Carson (500-yard freestyle) and sophomores Ridge Livermore (200 individual medley) and Ben Lux (diving) – will compete in the Class 6A division at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Texas in Austin. Westside junior Kaley Hoffman (100 backstroke, 200 individual medley) is the lone girl from Houston ISD in the state field.
